Christchurch is a laid-back, garden city and many artists and craftspeople have moved here. The theater and concert scene is very diverse, and events are listed in the Christchurch's Visitor Guide (What's On Guide) published by Canterbury Tourism Council. Also, the Press newspaper does write-ups on current arts events. Known to be New Zealand's leading theater, the Court Theatre features a small but high-quality ensemble and guest actors from Britain playing middle-of-the-road modern drama.
